AEW Dynamite Recap: The MJF/Adam Cole Bromance is Hilarious

  • The Jean Team of AEW International Champion Orange Cassidy and Darby Allin, SPOILER ALERT, made its triumphant return with a win over Limitless Keith Lee and Swerve Strickland in the AEW Tag Team Championship Eliminator Tournament
    • My buddy, Shoop, said it’d take three Darbys to take down Keith; I said four; it ended up being closer to 3.5, as Swerve did as much damage to his partner as his opponents
    • The Jean Team could be the next AEW Tag Team Champions, unless…
  • AEW Heavyweight Champion MJF and Adam Cole really are bonding and really want to be tag champs
    • I love to hate MJF, but I love to laugh at him more, and he hasn’t been this funny since the award-winning, dinner-and-dance act he did with Jericho
    • SPOILER ALERT, a double clothesline wasn’t necessary, as Cole lowered the boom and advanced the bromance in the tournament
  • This probably doesn’t need a SPOILER ALERT, but The Outcasts stole another one for Ruby Soho in the Owen Hart Foundation Women’s Tournament
    • “We’re not doing anything,” Saraya screamed at one point; then they did everything to Dr. Britt Baker, DMD
  • In the main event, Canadian wrestling god Kenny Omega returns to singles action in front of another crazed Canadian crowd for the first time since his SECOND epic battle with Will Ospreay
    • No one takes and delivers shots quite like the Omega Man, as he, SPOILER ALERT, defeated the plucky Wheeler Yuta only to get a beating from the BCC afterward before some relief from The Elite
      • On July 19, the feud will be settled via BLOOD AND GUTS!
        • 10 men, two rings, side-by-side, inside a steel cage, anything goes

The Twins Have the Royals’ Number (and No One Else’s)

  • 9-1 vs. Kansas City this season; 36-41 against everyone else
    • Pablo Lopez pitched the first shutout of his career last night
  • Pitching staff still ranks first in ERA, WHIP, opponent batting average, and strikeouts
  • They’re also starting to hit a bit
    • Crept out of the bottom third in OPS
    • Still lead the league in strikeouts, averaging 10 Ks/game
  • Correa leading off seems to be working
    • In his last five games, all of which he’s batted lead off, he’s 7-for-20 with two walks, three runs scored, and an RBI
      • Buxton is 5-for-16
      • Kepler is 6-for-16 with five RBI
      • Kirilloff is 5-for-14
  • On the darker side, Spencer Steer has a 130 OPS+ and has contributed to more than two wins this season, Tyler Mahle’s career as a Twin is likely over having contributed to half a win over this year and last, Yennier Cano has also contributed to 2.1 wins this season for Baltimore and might be the best closer alive, while Jorge López just came off the injured list for mental health reasons, having contributed -0.2 WAR. Oh, and Luis Arraez leads MLB in OBP and AVG has an OPS+ of 150, leading the Marlins to their best start since they won the World Series in 1997.

The Lynx Aren’t Bad Enough to Draft Paige Bueckers

  • Got virtually nothing offensively from first-round draft pick, Diamond Miller, and managed to beat the Indiana Fever, 90-83, last night
  • Kayla McBride has been a big contributor on both ends of the floor
    • She limited one of the top scorers and assist leaders in the league, Jewel Lloyd, to 14 points and one assist while scoring 18 on 4-of-9 shooting from three-point range
      • 13-for-29 from distance in the last five games (44.8 percent)
  • Napheesa Collier has been playing like the Phee we know and love
    • She’s the lone All-Star for the Lynx
    • Shooting 48.5 percent her last five games and averaging 26.6 points per game
    • She’s also launching a new league in Miami with Breanna Stewart called “Unrivaled,” which will operate during the WNBA offseason
      • Six teams, 30 of the top WNBA players playing 3-on-3 and 1-on-1 games, according to Ben Pickman of The Athletic
      • Likely due to WNBA “prioritization clause” in the CBA that requires players with three years of experience to be on time for training camps prior to the season, limiting opportunities overseas
      • Success of Ice Cube’s BIG3 league also likely inspired the league’s formation
